Objective
Determine feasibility of, and options for, planning for cross-municipality, regional habitat connectivity across metropolitan Melbourne.
Habitat connectivity does not recognise administrative boundaries, yet is typically planned for within such boundaries. This initiative aims to clarify an approach for planning for habitat connectivity across metropolitan Melbourne, that can be pitched to potential investors
It is a pilot focussed on neighbouring council areas in eastern region with Councils that have, are developing, or plan to undertake, habitat connectivity/corridor plans for their municipality. Together, the participating Council areas form a ‘slice’ of metropolitan Melbourne from inner urban to outer rural, that offers potential for connecting the more extensive habitats in outer Melbourne to the inner city, with the prospect of drawing more biodiversity through suburban areas into inner Melbourne.
