Objective
Identify and cost priority urban greening opportunities on public and private land across metropolitan Melbourne, primarily to: reduce urban heat for vulnerable communities; enhance passive open space, protect biodiversity and provide enhanced habitat; protect the health of waterways, riparian corridors and aquatic ecosystems; identify the intersection with integrated water management opportunities where alternative water sources can be used to support green infrastructure and further enhance the cooling benefit.
Progress
The working group is progressing the scoping of the project to ensure that the highest priority liveability and biodiversity criteria are considered
Next Steps
This initiative will use existing information, data, skills and tools to identify priority sites for resourcing accelerated activity at scale. It will develop an agreed, costed analysis and tools (such as GIS data, maps and worksheets) that can be used by an organisation or group of organisations to seek funding for on-ground activities.
