Objective

The purpose of this exciting initiative is to identify and cost priority urban greening opportunities on public and private land across metropolitan Melbourne, primarily to reduce urban heat for vulnerable communities; enhance passive open space, protect biodiversity and provide enhanced habitat; protect the health of waterways, riparian corridors and aquatic ecosystems.

Progress

Thanks to the excellent work undertaken by Morphum Environmental and the Working Group the Phase 1 geospatial model is complete.

Next steps

Phase 2 has commenced. It will develop an agreed, cost-benefit analysis that can be used by an organisation, or group of organisations, to inform funding bids for on-ground activities. The project is expected to be complete in November 2022.
